Science/STEM

We live in a world that is increasingly digitised and automated, so it is critical that we learn how to use technology in effective ways. This requires deep knowledge and understanding of a wide range of devices and systems that when used effectively, can transform learning, recreational activities, home life and work.

In 2023, we are excited to integrate more S.T.E.M. sessions into our Science program at Ballan Primary School. S.T.E.M is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and we are fortunate to have a set of brand new laptops specifically for use by our specialist classes.

The Science/S.T.E.M. program at Ballan Primary School is based around the key ideas of curiosity, problem solving and collaboration. Each week, students in Prep to Year 6 participate in one hour Science/STEM lessons with our specialist teacher. Relevant to the Victorian Curriculum and year level, students will have the opportunity to improve skills in research, communication and collaboration, publishing, design and coding.

Classes include alternative forms of hands-on problem solving such as investigating forensics by using Science to solve a mystery, and building structures, machines or arcade games using simple materials such as paper and Lego.
